Cylon Hybrids

Cylon Hybrids (Bay Ship Personalities)

Cylon Hybrids are the personality constructs for the Base Ships. They are biologicals like "The Twelve" but exist only within Base ships. They lay in a pool of what looks like water, but is more likely some sort of fluid that allows extremely fast transmission of data to and from the Hybrid brain.

The Hybrid makes its first appearance in Season 3, when Gaius Baltar sees one in the center of the Base Ship on which he is living. (or held captive, depending on perspective) He enters the room and learns from Cylon #3 that this being controls the ship and interfaces with it directly to control its movements and internal systems.

The Hybrid first encountered by Gaius seems to have some ability to see the future, and gives him a cryptic message about the location of a planet that houses more clues to the location of Earth.

f Edward James Olmos had followed the first love of his life, he'd have been a professional baseball player. But by age 13, another love entered his life: rock music. By age 15 he was already an experienced rock singer, forming and reforming several "garage bands" along the way. During the late '60s and early '70s he played the most famous clubs on Sunset Strip, including Gazzarri's and The Factory. But a friend suggested that, with his flair for the dramatic, he consider a career in acting.

Throughout the seventies he divided his time between rock music gigs, acting classes, bit parts in TV, Off-off-offBroadwayplays and his business of moving fine furniture (which kept body, soul and family together). His first big break was a starring role in Luis Valdez's play, "Zoot Suit", in 1978. The play moved toBroadwayand led to a Tony nomination and great critical acclaim. Perhaps best known for his role as "Lt. Martin Castillo" in the NBC TV series,"Miami Vice"(1984) (1984-1989), he has been seen in numerous film and TV productions. He received an AccademyAwardnomination for "best actor" for his starring role inStand and Deliver(1988). Most notable of his recent offerings isAmerican Me(1992), which was also his directingdebut. But acting, directing and screenwriting are only parts of what he does. Olmos contends he would much rather be known as an activist than an actor. He devotes much of his time to causes, particularly those focusing on the needs and rights of children. He makes, on average, some 150 personal appearances a year to places where he can reach kids at risk; juvenile halls, detention centers, boys/girls clubs, schools. Anywhere he can get across his message that "we all have a choice" about where life takes us. He stresses the importance of education, the risks of gang life and tries to promote the notion of taking responsibility for one's own actions and one's own happiness in life. Using his own "disadvantaged background" as an example (he grew up in East Los Angeles, infamous for its gang problems), he tells the kids, "If I can do it, so can you". And he tries to point them in a positive direction. He has served as an ambassador for UNICEF and has received numerous accolades for his activism. He will long be remembered for getting out in the thick of the L.A. Riots of 1992 with his broom: one calm, reasonable presence in the midst of chaos and gunfire. Olmos was married to actressLorraine Bracco. Between them they have 6 children, ages 10 - 25.

Bio:

Michael Hogan, a prospector's son, was born in Northern Ontario. He trained at the National Theatre School of Canada, where he met his future wife, actress Susan (King) Hogan. They worked as a package until their their children, Jennie-Rebecca Hogan (actress), Gabriel Hogan (actor), and Charlie Hogan (audience member), came along.

Over the years, Hogan has appeared in countless plays, films, TV series, and radio dramas, and even an opera.

Some of his favorite feature film experiences include Clearcut, with good friend Graham Greene, shot in the bush north of Lake Superior, Road to Saddle River, shot in the Badlands of Alberta; Klondike Fever, with Rod Steiger, Lorne Greene, Angie Dickenson and Gordon Pisent, shot in and around Barkerville, BC in the winter, A Simple Curve, shot in Slocan Valley, BC. His most rewarding television experiences include his work on Jake and the Kid, Monk, African Skies, Dead Man's Gun, Lifeline to Victory, Nights Below Station Street, Calico Christmas, For Those Who Hunt The Wounded Down and, of course, his all time favorite Battlestar Galactica.

Among his numerous live theater performances are the title role in Cowboy King, performed on horseback at the Caravan Farm Theatre in the interior of BC; Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman, then 19 years later, Willy Loman in the same play; Red Mango Blues, a one man show (with guitar virtuoso Harris Van Berkel), written by poet/playwright Charles Tidler; and Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew, with wife Susan as Kate.

Hogan has performed on several radio shows, including Pocket City Blues, a radio series about a blues DJ who stumbles into a different crime every week. Hogan's distinctive voice has also been heard over CBC Radio as the narrator of many books, poems, and short stories.

Hisawardnominations are numerous and include a BlizzardAwardfor Best Leading Actor (feature length) for his role in Nights Below Station Street, from Manitoba Film; and a Genie for Best Supporting Actor (feature length) in Solitaire.

The Hogans live on an island with son Charlie, a couple of dogs, cats, bikes, skis, and a few kayaks.

Helo and Athena are both on the Demetrius with Starbuck. Their daughter is never seen or mentioned...did they bring her along on this questionable mission? And if so, did they bring child care support staff? It's strange to imagine them as being willing to leave her behind on the Galactica, after what they went through to get her back.

The the weapons locker where the four known members of The Final Five are meeting bears the number 1701D. This is a reference to the starship Enterprise from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The ship's registry number was NCC-1701D.

Gaius Baltar

Overview

Gaius Baltar is an extremely complex character who is deeply flawed in many ways. He first appears in the first part of the four-part mini-series as a computer programmer of sorts. His function seems to have something to do with developing a computerized defense network for the twelve colonies. He has a girlfriend, later revealed to be the sixth Humanoid Cylon construct, who helps him with some of the calculations required to develop this defense system. While utilizing her assistance, he grants her access to the entire defense network, which, in turn, allows her to implant a Virus into the networked computer system ultimately leading to the destruction of nearly the entire Colonial fleet and the occupation of the twelve planets.

Character Connections

Gaius has vivid episodes which seem to be hallucinations involving himself and Caprica Six being transported to an idyllic location where he can talk out his thoughts with her. As this (apparent) fantasy develops, his visions of her begin to appear outside of this "dream world". Eventually, this "imaginary" Six is able to influence a good portion of his interactions with other characters.

Gaius is not a monogamous character, and in several episodes is seen to be in contact with numerous female crew-members. He is also seen to have sexual contact with two Cylons simultaneously later in the seasons.

Cylon Toasters (Centurions)

Infantry and Policing units

Cylon Centurions are the updated version of the Cylon mechanized unit from the original TV show. They are approximately 7 feet tall and have a metal outer-skin. They seem to be entirely mechanical, and have the ability to carry out simple tasks with a focus on policing and functioning as a disposable infantry for the Cylon fleet.

They have a generally humanoid structure with a front-facing head, two arms, two legs, and five fingers on each hand. Their hands are retractable, and when retracted are replaced by weapons that fire high-velocity projectiles in rapid succession at will.

The Cylon Centurion is highly resistant to hand-gun fire, and usually must be hit with explosive rounds to disable or destroy it.

Cylon Raiders

A Cylon Raider is a Cylon fighter ship. They deploy from the Cylon Bay Ships, and are the equivalent of the Colonial Viper, although they are more technologically advanced.

The Cylon Raider has FTL jump capability that by far outstrips anything the Colonial ships can match. In several episodes, the ability of the Cylon Raider to jump farther than any colonial ship works to the advantage of the colony crewmen who have captured Raiders at very opportune times.

The Raider is an unmanned fighter ship that is completely autonomous. The ship is actually a fully developed Cylon being similar to the "Skin Jobs" or "The Twelve". The exterior is completely inorganic, but the internal structure of the ship is mainly biological. The brain is housed in the central area of the ship behind the two "wings" which also house the weapons systems. From the front, one can easily see the distinctive red light which oscillates in a way very similar to the Centurion-type Cylon. It has been determined, though, that the Raider has a more advanced intellect and a distinctive personality (not to mention organic parts) unlike its cousin the Centurion, thus making it more similar to a "Skin Job" than to the Centurion.

One notable Raider known by the colonists as Scar, reportedly single-handedly shot down a large number of Colonial Vessels. The Colonials eventually find out that "Scar" has actually been killed many times, but has been resurrected via a "Resurrection Ship" repeatedly. The Cylons recognize that resurrection of the same Cylon Raider personality over and over is much more efficient than training a new entity to do the same job.

What is CAPRICA?

Set 58 years before Battlestar Galactica, Caprica follows two rival families and their patriarchs – Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) – as they compete and thrive in the vibrant world of the 12 Colonies, a society recognizably close to our own.

Enmeshed in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe, blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics.

The first season of Caprica will consist of a two-hour miniseries pilot and 18 one-hour episodes.

Caprica the series is due to premiere in early 2010.

Plot Summary

Battlestar Galactica's crew hasn't slept in 250 hours, as they race to escape the Cylons. Every 33 minutes -- the time it takes the Cylons to follow -- the entire fleet makes a Faster Than Light jump. Baltar panics when Dr. Anaorak contacts President Roslin from aboard the Olympic Carrier, claiming to have information about the Cylon attack. Roslin wishes to meet with him after the next jump is completed, but on arrival at the new coordinates the Carrier is missing. It reappears 33 minutes later, but the Cylons do not follow. When the Carrier does not respond to communications, it is discovered that there is a nuclear warhead onboard, and Starbuck and Apollo are ordered to shoot the carrier out of the sky, despite the possibility that the 1300 passengers are still alive.

Did Helo even wonder why Sharon shot the Number Six who was about to kiss him? He had no idea there were human-form Cylons at the time, so he should presumably have been shocked by the cold-blooded murder of one of the only people he'd seen alive on Caprica....
*She was obviously a Cylon collaborator.

What's your favorite pairing?

Bill and Laura - the leaders of the fleet share a deep and powerful bond, but how much more serious have they gotten behind closed doors (or under a New Caprican sky at night) ?
Kara and Lee - star-crossed lovers crossing galaxies together.
Gauis and Number Six - they have been lovers, they have longed for each other, and they serve as each other's conscience to this day. Is their connection making Number Six more human? More startlingly, is it making Gaius Baltar into a prophet?
Sam and Tory - it seemed briefly like they were made for each other...
Chief and Cally - a strong contender for most self-destructive pair (even by this show's standards!)
Helo and Sharon Agathon - through thick, thin, and every conceivable disaster, the one couple that sticks together...
Saul and Ellen Tigh - they saw each other through Ambrosia-colored glasses.
Chief and Boomer - at least we know why they never got pregnant...
Kara and Sam - some of the roughest, most painful dedication you'll ever see...and I don't just mean the tattoos.
Gaius and Tory - she came to him like Mata Hari...but is she under his spell now?
Lee and Dualla - a rebound marriage...what could go wrong?
Leoben and Kara - a match made in a Cylon Detention Center.
Cavil and Boomer - if anyone ever wanted to hear Cavil's message of nihilism, it's this sadly broken Cylon Number Eight.
Dualla and Billy Keikeiya - their bond began and ended in disaster.
Cain and Gina - there was too much rage for there never to have been passion...

Tigh and Number Six - from interrogator to lover, Saul has really done a complete turnaround in developing a relationship with Gaius' former Jiminy Cricket!

Bill and his model ship - The most dysfunctional relationship in the BSG universe. Bill loves the ship, gets it almost completed and then smashes it to bits. As far as we the view can tell this is a completely one sided relationship and the ships motivation for staying in this destructive relationship is never fully explored.
