Their paths were not likely to cross in the context of their everyday lives, but they turned out to share a greater path. The tantalizing torment of the music they could almost hear was like a serenade being played to draw them together. It started with a lingering glance across the room at Joe's Bar, but before long, they were alone together in the pilots' quarters, both their faces and demeanors seeming to suggest their sudden attraction was inexplicable even to them, that they were helplessly falling together, urged by a force greater than human will....

Which, of course, they were. The meaning behind that mysterious music finally became clear to them, and they realized they were Cylons. Interestingly, when Tory then tried to seek comfort in Sam's arms, he shoved her away with seeming disgust for what she was. He has since expressed to Kara that even if she were a Cylon, he would still love her. So either he's spent the brief intervening time coming to terms with his new identity, or he was with Tory only due to the Pied Piper effects of the invisible song they heard, and as soon as its spell was broken, so was their bond.
