Overview

Karl Agathon is a raptor copilot, call sign Helo. He was invented for the miniseries as Sharon "Boomer" Valerii's copilot. Helo volunteered to stay on Caprica when the Cylons attacked, knowing he would likely die, so that Gaius Baltar could have his seat on Boomer's Raptor. He survived with the help of another Number Eight, with whom he later fell in love and had a child, Hera, who is believed by human and Cylon alike to be the great hope for the future. Helo was acting XO on Galactica while Colonel Tigh was on New Caprica.

• The character was intended to be left to fate in the miniseries, but the actor was so wonderful that the producers created his subplot for season one.

Where else you may have seen him:

A Vancouver local, Tahmoh Penikett has played two different roles on Smallville and appeared on Stargate SG-1. He has held recurring roles on Cold Squad and Whistler.

What's next for him:

As Battlestar Galactica wraps its final season, Tahmoh Penikett is moving on to the new Joss Whedon series Dollhouse, on Fox. Watch for it in January 2009!
